Surrogacy for HIV+Parents at
Beta Plus Surrogacy
At Beta Plus Surrogacy, we believe that everyone deserves the chance to experience parenthood. For intended parents living with HIV, becoming a parent through surrogacy is possible — and safe — thanks to the Special Program of Assisted Reproduction (SPAR).
SPAR was developed in 1998 to help HIV+ men build their families while completely protecting both the surrogate and the baby during the surrogacy process. Since its creation, the program has enabled the birth of over 300 perfectly healthy children with zero cases of HIV transmission.
How SPAR Works
The SPAR process is the only safe way to use virus-free sperm in the IVF process.
Here’s a breakdown of how the program works:

Intended parents and surrogates discuss the program and verify that all parties included are comfortable with the process.
The HIV+ parent provides a semen sample following protocols.
The sample is tested for HIV. If the genetic material is clear, the sperm is separated (“washed”) from seminal fluid, eliminating the risk of transmission.
The washed specimen is frozen, transported, and used in IVF at a Beta Plus Fertility partner clinic for embryo transfer.
